English Department : Group discussion programme in English for students

The Department of English conducted Group Discussion on 6th of April, 2024. Dr. T. K. Kanthale, Head, Department of English motivated the students to participate in Group Discussions. He explained Dos and Don'ts of Group Discussions. 4 groups of 12 students each were formed. Dr. Tarachand Kanthale & Dr. Sachin Telkhade were the  juries for the same. In total, 48 students actively participated and enlightened themselves. The programme was helpful in enhancing confidence of students in English speaking and expressing their views boldly.

Poetry Recitation Competition

Department of English Babaji Detey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal organised Poetry Recitation Competition and Guest Lecture on Poetry: A Significant Form of Literature on 21st of March 2024 in Savarkar Hall. First of all, the dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp and garlanded the images of Late Babaji Datey, the founder of institution and the goddess of learning, Devi Saraswati.
The programme was presided over by the Principal of college Dr. Varsha Kulkarni. She motivated the students to take active part in all the Departmental Programmes. Prof. Nilesh Autkar, Head, Department of English Smt. Nankibai Wadhwani Arts College was the Guest of honour. He enlightened the students by throwing light on how poetry is the significant form of literature. He also quoted various definitions of poetry and he invokes the students to be the fond lover of language and literature. Dr. T.K.Kanthale, Head , Department of English  was the chief guest. He addressed the students in his introductory remarks.
Dr. Sachin Telkhade was the jury for the Poetry Recitation Competition. Rohan Gayakwad was declared first prize.  The second prize was given to Miss. Vaishnavi Kokare. However, Mr. Tushar Dadanje was given the third prize respectively. In all, 117 students were present for the event.
Mr. Rohan Gayakwad, President of English Literary Society compered the programme. Mr. Tushar Dadanje proposed vote of thanks. The faculty members and office bearers of English Literary Society took efforts for the success of programme.

Book Donation Ceremony

The department of English organised Books Donation Ceremony on dated 31 December, 2023, in ICT room, Geography Department. Dr. Vivek Deshmukh, Head, Department of English delivered his opening remarks. Dr. Babasaheb Adamane and Dr. Chaudhari were the guest of honour and they enlightened the students. The program was presided over by Dr. Vivek Deshmukh. Many students and most of the teachers attended the programme.
In the programme, 40 Grammar Books were donated to the students, who succeeded in securing first 40 positions in the result of Grammar Test held on 30/10/2023. Total 214 students were appeared for the examination. The grammar book entitled 'English Grammar Practice' authored by Raj N. Bakshi. The books were donated by Dr. V. S. Deshmukh in memory of his mother Late Kusumtai Shridharrao Deshmukh. The programme was anchored by Dr. Sachin Telkhade and vote of thanks expressed by Dr. Tarachabd Kanthale.

Reading Skills Activity

Department of English conducted reading skills activity from 27 October to 01 November, 2023. The activity was conducted for B. A. Semester 1 students, they responded spontaneously to this activity. In this activity, a student comes on the stage and reads a paragraph or poem from the prescribed syllabus and explains it in marathi or English. The activity helped students to develop their reading skills and public speaking skills.

English Grammar Test

MCQ English Grammar Test has been conducted by the Department of English on 30, October 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Total 214 students appeared for the English grammar test.
Seating arrangement were done in 4 class rooms. Four invigilators were appointed to conduct test transparently and smoothly.  The test paper included 50 multiple choice questions on various grammar topics. As a prize, first 40 students were offered a Grammar Book in the memory of Late Kusumtai Shridharrao Deshmukh. Book Donation Ceremony was held and books were distributed.

संभाषण कौशल्य व व्यक्तिमत्व विकास या विषयावर व्याख्यान

बुधवार, दिनांक 27 सप्टेंबर 2023 रोजी महाविद्यालयामध्ये इंग्रजी विभागातर्फे संभाषण कौशल्य व व्यक्तिमत्व विकास या विषयावर गेस्ट लेक्चर आयोजित करण्यात आले होते. या कार्यक्रमासाठी विशेष अतिथी म्हणून कुमारी आश्लेषा अडसोड यांनी विद्यार्थ्यांना या स्पर्धेच्या युगात संभाषण कौशल्य आणि व्यक्तिमत्व विकास यांचे महत्त्व पटवून दिले. ज्याला संभाषण करता येते, आपल्या भावना व्यक्त करता येतात, तो या जगात आपले अस्तित्व निर्माण करू शकतो, असे प्रतिपादन कुमारी आश्लेषा अडसड यांनी केले. इंग्रजी विभाग प्रमुख डॉ. विवेक देशमुख कार्यक्रमाच्या अध्यक्षस्थानी होते. विद्यार्थ्यांनी अभ्यासेतर कार्यक्रमांमध्ये सहभागी होऊन संभाषणामध्ये रुची घेतल्यास जीवनात प्रगती निश्चित करता येते, असे मत डॉ. विवेक देशमुख यांनी आपल्या अध्यक्ष मनोगतातून व्यक्त केले. प्रारंभी पाहुण्यांच्या हस्ते दीपप्रज्वन करून स्वागत आणि सत्कार करण्यात आला. या कार्यक्रमाचे प्रास्ताविक आणि परिचय प्रा.डॉ. ताराचंद कंठाळे यांनी तर आभार प्रदर्शन प्रा. डॉ. सचिन तेलखडे यांनी केले. या कार्यक्रमाचे संचलन   रोहन गायकवाड बी .ए.भाग 3 आणि दिपाली ठाकरे बी. ए. भाग 2 यांनी संयुक्तरीत्या केले. सदर कार्यक्रमास महाविद्यालयातील बहुसंख्य शिक्षक व विद्यार्थी उपस्थित होते.

Guest Lecture on Legal Awareness & Road Safety

बाबाजी दाते कला आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय, यवतमाळ येथे इंग्रजी विभागातर्फे गुरुवार दिनांक 13/04/2023 रोजी Legal Awareness & Road Safety या विषयावर व्याख्यान आयोजीत्  करण्यात आले. या कार्यक्रमासाठी प्रमुख वक्ते म्हणून Road Transport Office (RTO) चे श्री. दिवेश उबाळे उपस्थित होते. त्यांनी गाडी चालवताना कोणकोणत्या नियमांचे पालन करावे याबद्दल माहिती दिली. या कार्यक्रमासाठी बी.ए. आणि बी.कॉम. चे विद्यार्थी बहुसंख्येने उपस्थित होते. कार्यक्रमाच्या आयोजनासाठी  महाविद्यालयाचे प्राचार्य व इंग्रजी विभाग प्रमुख डॉ. विवेक देशमुख तसेच डॉ. ताराचंद कंठाळे, डॉ. रवीजीत गावंडे यांचे सहकार्य लाभले. कार्यक्रमाच्या आयोजनासाठी डॉ. सचिन तेलखडे यांनी समन्वयक म्हणून काम पाहिले.

Department of English, Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal organized lnauguration of English Literary Society on 29 November 2022 at Sawarkar Hall. The inaugurator of function and Chief Guest Dr. Sudhir Trikande, Associate Professor, Bhausaheb Bore Shivshkti Mahavidyalaya, Babhulgaon spoke on this occasion. During his speech, he underlined the need and importance of Planning for career development. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized on the role of English in the success of various eminent personalities.
Dr Tarachand Kanthale gave an introductory remarks and shared valuable information on the topic. Prof. Vijay Dixit, Librarian was prominently present and also guided the stakeholders. Dr. Vivek Deshmukh, Head, Department of English, presided over the function and addressed the gathering. He enlightened the students by appealing to be the fond lovers of English and acquire dignified positions as college’s alumni.
On this occasion, newly elected BOS members of Senate, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati Dr. Sudhir Trikande and Dr.Tarachand Kanthale were also felicitated by the Department of English. However, During the programme, executive members of English Literary Society were felicitated. Dr. Tarachand Kanthale and Dr. Sachin Telkhade took strenuous efforts to make program successful. Teaching faculties, other staff members and 141 students attended the programme. Mr. Rohan Gayakwad , newly elected Secretory and Miss. Vaishnavi Kokare, Co-editor of Literary Magazine, Dawn of  English Literary Society conducted the proceedings while Miss Amrpali Shende proposed vote of thanks.

 

Group Discussion in English in Datey College

On 26th May 2022, Department of English of Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya conducted Group Discussion on the topic 'Importance of English in Students' Life'. At the beginning of the discussion the participating students were little bit hesitant in expressing their opinions but soon they got over the fear and the discussion picked up the pace. The purpose of conducting Group Discussion was to encourage students to speak in English and boost their confidence. The purpose of conducting Group Discussion was fulfilled to a large extent Many of the students highlighted the importance of English in their lives.
The session was attended by Dr. Vivek Deshmukh, H.O.D. Dept. of English, Prof. Haridas Dhurve, Dr. Tarachand Kanthale, Dr. Ravijeeet Gawande and faculty coordinator Dr. Sachin Telkhade.

Inauguration of English Literary Society and Guest Lecture

Department of English, Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal organized inauguration of English Literary Society and welcome to the Freshers on 07 January 2022 at Sawarkar Hall.
Dr Vivek Deshmukh gave an introductory remarks and shared valuable information on the topic. The inaugurator of function Mr. Vinayak  Datey, President, VMV trust spoke on this occasion. During his speech, he underlined the need and importance of English for career development. Mr. Pravin Gandhi, renowned Chartered Accountant and an alumnus of the institution was a speaker and the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the role of English in the success of various eminent personalities. His presentation was followed by question and answer session.. Dr. Varsha Kulkarni, Principal of the college, presided over the function and addressed the gathering.
During the programme, winners of Debate and Seminar Presentation Competitions were felicitated at the hands of Chief Guest. Executive members of English Literary Society were felicitated and first year students were welcomed at the hands of dignitaries.
Dr. Tarachand Kanthale and Dr. Sachin Telkhade took strenuous efforts to make program successful. Teaching faculty, other staff members and 135 students attended the programme. Mr. Mahesh Sirsat, newly elected President of English Literary Society conducted the proceedings while Miss Sakshi Makode proposed vote of thanks.

प्रा. सचिन हिरालालजी तेलखडे यांना आचार्य पदवी (Ph.D.) प्रदान

वाणिज्य महाविद्यालय न्यास द्वारा संचालित बाबाजी दाते कला आणि वाणिज्य महाविद्यालयातील  इंग्रजी विभागातील प्रा. सचिन हिरालालजी तेलखडे यांना संत गाडगेबाबा अमरावती विद्यापीठातर्फे नुकतीच आचार्य पदवी (Ph.D.) प्रदान करण्यात आलेली आहे. त्यांच्या संशोधनाचा विषय  “A Critical Study of Popular Fiction Genres with special reference to Mario Puzo’s, “The Godfather”, Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express”, Khaled Hosseini’s “The Kite Runner” and Eric Segal’s “Love Story” हा आहे. त्यांना या आचार्य पदवी करिता अमरावती येथील डॉ. कुलदीपसिंग मोहाडीकर यांचे मार्गदर्शन लाभले.
प्रा. सचिन तेलखडे यांना आचार्य पदवी प्राप्त झाल्याबद्दल वाणिज्य न्यासाचे अध्यक्ष श्री. विनायक दाते, उपाध्यक्ष व न्यासाचे सन्माननीय सदस्य, प्राचार्य व सर्व प्राध्यापक यांच्या द्वारे अभिनंदन करण्यात आले.

प्रा.विवेक देशमुख यांना संत गाडगे बाबा अमरावती विद्यापीठ, अमरावती ची इंग्रजी विषयात आचार्य (Ph.D) पदवी बहाल करण्यात आली. त्यांचा संशोधनाचा विषय History, Politics and Culture: A Study of Novels of Amitav Ghosh.  होता.त्यांचा सत्कार करतांना संस्थेचे अध्यक्ष मा.विनायक दाते, उपाध्यक्ष श्री सतीश फाटक, विश्वस्त सौ. सुषमा दाते, श्री कासलीकर सर, कार्यकारी प्राचार्य डॉ. माणिक मेहरे, प्रा. डॉ. प्रदीप दरवरे तसेच महाविद्यालयीन प्राध्यापक व शिक्षकेतर कर्मचारी....

E-lectures

In view of lockdown due to COVID-19 (Corona Virus), it has been decided to commence e-lectures in English subject (basic English and English literature) using zoom app. The schedule of lectures is being informed to students from time to time. Any student having smart phone can download zoom app and view the lecture after typing meeting number and meeting password.

Debate Competition

The Department of English, Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal conducted Debate Competition on 29th February,2020 in English. The topic of the competition was "Social Media is the Need of the Hour for College Students". The purpose was to motivate and develop argumentative calibre of the stakeholders. The programme was presided over by Dr.Manik Mehare, Vice Principal. She inspired the students to improve their English and explained how English is the language of bread and butter.  Many students of the college actively participated in the debate competition. Prof Dr.T.K.Kanthale was present as guest of honour to inspire students. Prof.Vivek Deshmukh, Head, Department of English of Datey College and Senate Member, SGBAU, Amravati delivered his introductory speech where he stressed  the importance of oratory. Prof.Vijay Dixit and Prof.Telkhade were the judges. The programme was anchored by Miss Dhanashri Kapshikar. Miss Rajnekar proposed vote of thanks.

Competition in English on ‘How to make Presentation at Seminar’

The Department of English, Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal organized ‘Seminar Presentation Competition’ on 28th February, 2020 Dr.Manik Mehare, Vice Principal chaired the session. In her precedential address, she remarked that there is no escape and short cut to success English is the Lingua Franca of the world even before Independence. Prof.Vivek Deshmukh, Head, Department of English of Datey College and Senate Member, SGBAU, Amravati, in his introductory remarks emphasised the importance of English language. He also narrated about the nuances and how the presentation is conducted. Prof Dr.T.K. Kanthale were prominently present as guest of honour. Prof.Telkhade asked the students to be away from comfort zone and meet the challenges in life. Many of the students including office bearers of English Literary Society participated and expressed their opinions on various topics relating to presentation at seminar. Prof.Vijay Dixit and Prof.Sachin Telkhade were juries for the same. Mr.Mahesh Sirsat conducted the proceedings. Mr.Dadaji Kinkar proposed vote  of thanks.

English Literary Society Inaugurated in Datey College

Department of English of Babaji Datey Arts and Commerce College, Yavatmal organised the inauguration of English Literary Society on 1st of October 2019 at Savarkar Hall in the college.
Mr. Satish Phatak, Vice President of the V.M.V. Trust presided over the function. Mr. Nitin Kumar Shrivastav, Works Director of Raymond Industries Ltd. was the guest of honour. While inaugurating the English Literary Society, the guest of honour Shri Nitin Shrivastav stressed the need and importance of English language and literature in modern world. He motivated the students for goal setting narrating the story of 'Eklavya ' from Mahabharata. Prof. Vivek Deshmukh, H.O.D., English delivered introductory speech and also introduced the chief guest. Vice principal Mrs Manik Mehare explained various initiatives taken by college to improve soft skills of students. In his  presidential address, Mr.Satish Phatak exhorted the students by telling them the importance of soft skills in this world of globalization. Students also expressed their views. Office bearers of English Literary Society were felicitated on the occasion.

Released Wall Magazine "Dawn"

Department of English, Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal released Wall Magazine "Dawn" to celebrate Independence Day. An article displaying the importance of Independence in this modern world was the main attraction of the Wall Magezine. On this auspicious occasion, Vice Principal, Dr Manik Mehare, Prof. Vivek Deshmukh, Prof. Haridas Dhurve, Dr Tarachand Kanthale, Prof. Nalini Ade and students of literary association were prominently present to grace the occasion.

A workshop on "Mother tongue to Other tongue"

Babaji Datey Arts & Commerce College, Department of English conducted a workshop on Mother tongue to Other tongue on 7th of August. Prof. Vijay Dixit chaired the programme while Mr. Satish Phatak, vice_president Vanijya Mahavidyalaya Trust, inaugurated the programme. The guest of honour was Dr. Prashant Gawande who delivered his lecture on the said topic quoting hordes of examples “how English is important in modern era”. He also motivated the students displaying inspirational videos through PPT. He recited that the word other is itself included in the word Mother thus learning becomes easy through Marathi into English. Mr. Satish Phatak explained the significance of Mother tongue as well English. Prof. Vivek Deshmukh delivered introductory speech narrating the beauty of English language and how it is the lingua franca of the modernism. Prof. Vijay Dixit in his presidential address said that no language or dialect is inferior and dead.

Initially the dignitaries lighted the lamp an garlanded the portrait of Late Babaji Datey, the founder of institute. The guests and the students paid tribute to Ravindranath Tagore, the first  recipient of Nobel Prize for literature in India on account of his death anniversary. However the tribute was also paid to the veteran politician and extraordinary orator late Sushma Swaraj. Dr. Tarachand Kanthale conducted the proceedings while Prof. Nalini Ade proposed vote of thanks

Literary Society Inaugurated

On 24th August 2018, the department of English organized Inaugural Function of English   Literary Society at local Babaji Datey Kala Ani Vanijya Mahavidyalaya. Shri Vinayak Datey , president of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya Trust, presided over the function. Principal Prof. Prerna Puranik was the chief guest while Mrs Sushma Datey was the guest of honour for the function.
During the programme college professor Tarachand Kanthale was felicitated at the hands of Shri Vinayak Datey for being awarded Ph. D. in English by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. The Executive Members of Literary Society were also felicitated in the programme.
B.A.II and III year students had arranged welcome ceremony for B.A.I (freshers) students. On this occasion a motivational video clip entitled "The World is yours" by Julie Durden was also shown to the students. Further, prof. Vivek Deshmukh Head, Department of English enlightened the students regarding the importance of English literature and spoken English in the modern world.He  also stressed the importance of oratorial skill in the development of personality.Miss Diksha Gaikwad , president of English Literary Society, and many others  also expressed their views on this occasion.
Principal Puranik madam exhorted the Students regarding the need of importance of English in life. Shri Vinayak Datey, the president of Vanijya Maha.Trust addressed the students and asked them to focus their attention on learning of English language as it the Lingua Franca of the world. He also enlightened the students regarding the use of ICT and soft skills.
Miss.Dhanashri Kapsikar and Samiksha Thakre jointly compered the programme. Finally the vote of thanks was proposed by miss.Mayuri Godse.
